Privacy policy
Your plate, your data.
Hue helps you eat more different plants. We collect what we need to run Hue, fix problems and make it better, and we never sell it.

Who we are
Hue is run by Revolvv Pty Ltd, an Australian company. We’re responsible for your information (in European terms, the “data controller”). Contact us any time at [email protected].
What we keep
- Your account: your email address and a password. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody at Hue can read them. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an email address instead of a password; if you choose Hide My Email, it’s a private relay address that forwards to you.
- What you log: your plan and goals, meals, the foods in them, saved meals, your food collection, and the first names of any family profiles you add.
- Messages: what you send us when you email us for help.
- Technical details: your IP address, device and browser type, and errors.
- How you use Hue (analytics): the screens you visit, what you tap, the foods you log, and recordings of your time in the app and on our website, so we can fix problems and make Hue better. This is linked to your account. You can turn it off any time (see Your choices).
- Your membership: whether it’s active and when it renews. You pay through Apple, so Hue never sees your card details.
Meal photos
Photos stay on your device until you tap Find ingredients. The first time, Hue asks if that’s okay. Then the photo is sent to our AI partner, OpenAI, which suggests the plants it can see. OpenAI uses it only to answer that request, doesn’t use it to train its AI, and may hold it for up to 30 days for safety checks before deleting it.
Hue saves the foods you confirm, not the photo. If analytics is on, a photo you check can appear in that session’s recording, which is kept for up to 30 days. You can always skip photos and choose foods yourself.
On your iPhone or iPad
Camera and photo access are used only when you choose to add a meal photo. Meal reminders are optional and are sent by your phone, not our servers. If analytics is on, the reminder times you choose are included in it.
Who helps us run Hue
- Supabase stores your account and logs, and sends sign-in emails.
- Cloudflare delivers the website.
- Apple handles Sign in with Apple and membership payments in the app.
- OpenAI suggests ingredients from a photo, only when you ask.
- PostHog provides our analytics: it records how Hue is used, as described under What we keep.
They may only use your information to provide their service to Hue. We don’t sell or share your information for advertising.
We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public. If Hue is ever sold or reorganised, your information may move with it and stays protected by this policy.
Keeping it safe
Your information is encrypted when it travels and when it’s stored, and only the people and systems that need it can reach it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect yours, and we’ll tell you if a breach puts you at risk.
Cookies and storage on your device
Hue uses your browser’s or phone’s storage only for things it needs to work: keeping you signed in, keeping your settings, and holding unsaved changes. If analytics is on, PostHog also stores an ID on your device so it can tell your visits apart. There are no advertising cookies.
Where your information is stored
Your account and logs are stored by Supabase in the United States. Our other providers (Cloudflare, Apple, OpenAI and PostHog) may also handle information in the United States and other countries. So if you live in Australia, Europe, the UK or elsewhere, your information travels overseas. We only use providers that commit to protecting it, and for people in Europe and the UK those transfers are covered by the standard contract terms approved by the European Commission and the UK.
Why we use your information
- To run Hue for you: your account, what you log and your membership are needed to provide the service you signed up for.
- With your permission: meal photos are sent to OpenAI only when you agree and tap Find ingredients. You can stop using photos at any time.
- To keep Hue safe and working: basic technical records, like when a request was made, help us stop misuse and fix problems.
- To fix problems and improve Hue: analytics. In Europe and the UK we ask first and only use it if you agree. Everywhere else it’s on to start with, and you can switch it off any time.
- Because the law says so: for example, keeping payment records for tax.
How long we keep it
- Your account, logs and collection: until you delete your account.
- Meal photos: Hue doesn’t store them, though a checked photo can appear in a session recording for up to 30 days; OpenAI may hold one for up to 30 days, as above.
- Technical records: kept by our providers for a short time, usually days.
- Analytics: session recordings for up to 30 days; other usage records for up to 1 year, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Payment records: kept by Apple for as long as tax and financial laws require.
Not health advice
Hue counts the variety of plants you log. Its colour groups are a fun way to explore food, not a nutrient score or medical advice.
Children
You need to be 16 or older to create a Hue account, or 13 to 15 with a parent or guardian’s permission. We don’t knowingly let anyone under 13 create an account, and we don’t show ads or sell anyone’s information. Younger children can appear as family profiles that a parent or carer adds and manages. If you think a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
Deleting your data
Open Account & billing in Hue and choose Delete account. Your account, plan, logs and collection are deleted straight away. Copies in our providers’ encrypted backups are overwritten over the following weeks. If you subscribed in the app, cancel that first in your iPhone or iPad Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions.
Your choices
You can see and change everything you log in the app, and delete your account at any time. To ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or anything else about your privacy, email [email protected]. We may need to confirm it’s you first. We’ll reply as soon as we can, and always within a month. If we can’t do what you ask, we’ll explain why. Using your rights won’t change how we treat you. If you’re unhappy with our answer, you can contact the privacy regulator where you live; in Australia that’s the OAIC. To stop analytics, open You › Privacy in the app and turn Analytics off. For this website on this device:
If you’re in Europe or the UK
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- see the information we hold about you and get a copy of it, including in a format you can take elsewhere;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- ask us to limit how we use it, or object to how we use it;
- take back your permission at any time, for example for meal photos. This doesn’t affect what happened before.
Hue doesn’t make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly serious effects. To use any of these rights, email us. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your information, you can contact the data protection authority where you live or work. In the UK, that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
In the United States
Some states, such as California, give residents rights over their personal information, including those above. You can ask someone you authorise to make a request for you. We don’t sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Other websites
Hue may link to sites run by others, such as Apple’s. Their own privacy policies apply.
Changes
We’ll post any new version here and update the date at the top. If it changes in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
